Synoptophore meaning
Synoptophore is Ophthalmic equipment used for measured the grade of binocular vision, measured the angle of deviation of squint and strabismus, sensory function test.
Synoptophore is also called as major amblyoscope.
Synoptophore word meaning
Synoptophore :
Syn = Both
Opto= Eye
Phore= Range
Principle of synoptophore
Synoptophore Principle is based on haploscopic principle.
Synoptophore is designed on the Principle of divisions of physical space into two seperate area of Visual space each of which is visible to one eye only.
Procedures of synoptophore test
• Synoptophore consists of two tubes, tube is right-angled bend, mounted on base.
• Each tube synoptophore contains a light source for illumination of slides and a slide carrier at the outer part, a reflecting mirror at the right angled bend and an eyepiece of +6.5 D at the inner end.
• The two tubes can be moved separately or together by means of knobs around a semicircular scale.
Uses of synoptophore
• Synoptophore is an equipment for diagnosing imbalance of eye muscles and treating them by orthoptic methods.
•Synoptophore is used for many diagnostic and therapeutic indications in orthoptics. Many ophthlamic procedures and tests can also be performed with this instrument.
• Grades of binocular single vision there are three grades of binocular single vision, which are best tested with the help of a synoptophore.
• Synoptophore measure of deviation of eye.
• All types of heterophorias and heterotropias can be measured accurately with it.
• Synoptophore test is also used for Measurement of fusional reserve of eye.
• Synoptophore is Ophthalmic device and equipment test to detect the abnormal retinal correspondence. ARC is also detect by Worth’s four-dot test, titmus stereo test, Bagolini striated glass tests, after image tests.
• Synoptophore machine is used for measured the angle of sqint and strabismus.
• Synoptophore is use for orthoptic exercises.
Synoptophore assessment and result note
Estimation of grades of binocular vision.
Detection of normal/abnormal retinal correspondence (ARC).
It is done by determining the subjective and objective angles of the squint.
1. In normal retinal correspondence, these two angles are equal.
2. In ARC, objective angle is greater than the subjective angle and the difference between these is called the angle of anomaly.
3. When the angle of anomaly is equal to the objective angle, the ARC is harmonious.
4. In unharmonious ARC angle of anomaly is smaller than the objective angle.
