What is haab's striae in cornea of eye ?

• Haab's striae is nothing but tear of descemet's membrane of cornea. 

• The enlargemnet of Corneal size and shape due stretching the corneal tissue result of tear descemet's membrane is called as haab's striae.

• Haab's striae or Descemet's tears are horizontal breaks in the Descemet membrane

• It is associated with congenital glaucoma, Progressively increase the Intraocular pressure (IOP).

• It is named after Otto Haab Swiss ophthalmologist. 

• These occur because descemet's membrane is less elastic than the corneal stroma layer of cornea. 

Descemet's membrane tears are Commonly at peripheral, concentric with limbus and appear as line with double contour.



What is descemet's membrane ?

• Descemet's membrane is  5th corneal layer.

• It is highly resistant to chemical agents, trauma and pathological processes. 

• 'Descemetocele' can maintain the integrity of eyeball for long. 

• Descemet's membrane consists of collagen and glycoproteins.

• when damage Descemet's membrane it's regenrate again.
